Winter Studio Journal, Jan. 15, Designing the Rose Window Layer
I’m logging studio days here this month, experimenting with sharing more here and less on social media.
I’m adding a rose window to my current work in progress. This one is more inspired by the cathedral at Amiens than the one in Florence, simply because I’m drawn to the style of that particular window for this particular piece. Cutting and sewing it will be quite tricky but I’m going to give it a try. I’m still working out how to navigate the stitching in some areas of the window.
The notion of everyday cathedral is that we can experience the awe, wonder, and a sense of being part of something much grander, in nature. Forests of cedar trees, starling murmurations, and summer ponds are their own kinds of cathedrals. I hope to capture that with this series while maintaining a certain level of mystery and subtlety.
