this color feels like summer

I’ve worked with a softer color palette for may years now. First, was a body of abstract oil paintings in a mix of pastels and tonal grays. That palette carried over into my mixed media work. It’s now continuing in a new iteration, one that is slightly more saturated, in a collection of paintings I have underway.

Lavender, or any shade of purple really, very rarely shows up in my work and I’m not sure why. I love the way it looks whenever I do use it and am happy to see it make an appearance in this painting. I think it will also thread its way into other paintings in the collection.

This collection of paintings is being created in June and July and will be exhibited in several shows in late summer and fall. I’m sharing glimpses of the process here and on my Instagram stories.
