Sweet Peas and Queen Anne’s Lace

This mixed media piece, currently in progress, was inspired by a hike at a local nature preserve. Wild peas and Queen Anne’s Lace were blooming and I was struck by the vivid pink of the peas and texture of the lace-like flowers.

The pink abstract marks in the art are meant to capture the movement and presence of peas and I decided to interpret the Queen Anne’s Lace with a bit more stillness, by stitching a series of French knots.

For those who would like to see this process up close, this piece will be in my studio, unfinished and unframed, during the Sturgeon Bay Summer Art Crawl this weekend. Regular gallery hours are Thursdays through Mondays, 11-4. I’ll be open extended hours, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., this Saturday and Sunday for the the Art Crawl.

Hope to see you there!
