some themes in my art

One of the things I seek to do in my art is convey the tension and beauty of places where wilderness meets cultivation. Repeating patterns with floral and plant motifs represented cultivated spaces like gardens. They are inspired by the Arts and Crafts movement centered in the Victorian period, a period that sought to tame and control nature. Bees, dragonflies and other insects, as well as the birds that show up in my work, represent the boundaries between wilderness and human-designed landscapes. I use them because the easily move in and out of both spaces, depicting that nature will do its own thing.
