creating a new collection of paintings

Over the past year or so I’ve been doing what I call my painting experiments—playing with ways to translate my mixed media work into paintings on canvas or cradled panels. After a bunch of single painting experiments, I’ve decided I need to dedicate a few months to creating an entire body of paintings. This will allow me to fully develop this style in painting as well as further get to know acrylic paints. For many years I’ve painted, and taught in oils, but have recently moved to acrylics and other water-based paints. The painting above is the first in the series. It’s going to get at least one more pattern layer, probably in indigo blue.

One thing I’ve already learned is that paint quality really matters when it comes to acrylics and Golden paints have rapidly become my favorites (I’m just a fan, not a paid Golden affiliate). They have a beautiful viscosity and stay fluid for a long time.

As I create this collection of paintings, I’ll be sharing the process here on the blog and on my Instagram stories.
