Winter Studio Journal, Jan. 7, embroidery on large-scale art

I’m logging studio days here this month, experimenting with sharing more here and less on social media.

Yesterday was spent hand-sewing on this piece, sometimes working at the easel so I could easily move from the front to back of the piece. Even though these are works on paper, the many layers of paper make them quite sturdy so I can lean them on an easel. When the embroidery is done in the center of a large piece it’s hard to work when it it’s lying on a table. Keeping it upright allows me to move around the piece to pull the needle from one side to the other.

Sewing at the easel.
