Soft Power Exhibition at MCAD

My piece, Collecting, in Soft Power at the MCAD Galleries

The Soft Power exhibition at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design is wrapping next Saturday. It was fun to be a part of the show and to attend the opening on Friday, March 25, followed by a museum day on Saturday. This exhibition featured art by faculty working in fiber which had me evaluating the context of my work.

Because I’m trained as a painter and teach painting, I still very much think of myself as a painter, even though I’ve been working in mixed media and incorporating embroidery into my art for a number of years now. It was great to have the opportunity to think of my work in terms of a different art discipline entirely and has opened up a path to new ideas and ways of thinking about my future work and use of materials.

If you find yourself in Minneapolis, the exhibition runs through April 16, 2022.
