Making our way to clarity

Recently, on Instagram, I’ve been sharing small paintings I’m making as a means of exploring a new technique. Six paintings in and I already feel some clarity developing around what I want to do next with my work. And this has been a long time coming.

Even though I want to work larger again, I’m going to hold back and make myself continue to work at a smaller scale. There is such value in the process of small studies and, even though I teach it, I’d kind of forgotten it myself. I’d like to get a lot of prep work in prior to the deep winter months when I can spread out and have multiple large works going at once. It’s also fun to see the work accumulate more rapidly since my process is pretty slow and the larger works take a long time to finish.
