DIY Artist Residency

Last year I started a painting challenge in December that went through the holidays and ended in early January. This year I've decided to do a less intense version of that and am thinking of it as a DIY residency. It won’t offer the the abundant time and space of an actual residency but will ensure I prioritize studio time during this busy time of year.

I’ve noticed that this is one of the times of year I crave studio time. I think it’s because the holiday season can be hectic and making art is grounding.

I also made a goal at the beginning of 2022 to make a certain number of pieces this year and with concerted effort I can reach that goal.

So, to that end, I’m going to begin this residency next week and carry it through the end of the year. I’m still working on what the guidelines will be but they will include a specific number of weekly studio hours and I’ll share some of the process here.
